Daily calorie calculator (TDEE)
This calculator estimates the calories you need per day (TDEE, total daily energy expenditure) from your basal metabolic rate and activity level, with goals to maintain, lose or gain weight.
How it’s calculated
TDEE = BMR × activity factor
First the BMR (Mifflin-St Jeor) is computed and multiplied by an activity factor: sedentary 1.2; light 1.375; moderate 1.55; active 1.725; very active 1.9. To lose or gain weight gradually, adjust by about 250 kcal (≈0.25 kg per week).
Activity levels
- Sedentary: little or no exercise.
- Light: 1-3 days/week.
- Moderate: 3-5 days/week.
- Active: 6-7 days/week.
- Very active: physical job or twice-daily training.
Frequently asked questions
